This is part 7 of a series exploring how the Bible teaches that Jesus was greater than all who came before him. This series is not intended to be exhaustive. The topic of Jesus as “greater than” or “better” than those who came before him is inexhaustible. Libraries could and should be written on this subject. But we have attempted in these pages to explore what such a rich subject would look like. (Each entry is excerpted from There Is No Greater Love)
Christ Greater than Adam (5 of 6)
Adam’s sin forced us into exile from the pleasant garden. Christ’s obedience has restored us to the garden of God’s delight (John 20:15). Adam’s sin caused angels to be stationed with fiery swords to keep us away from garden and the presence of God. Christ’s obedience has opened a new and living way for us back into the presence of God (Heb 10:20). Adam’s sin barred us from the fruit of the tree of life. But Jesus promises to all who overcome that He will give us to eat of the tree of life in the paradise of God (Rev 2:7).
Everything we lost in the first Adam has been restored to us by the last Adam. Adam’s sin was great, but Christ’s redemption is greater than Adam’s sin.
