This is part 14 of a series exploring how the Bible teaches that Jesus was greater than all who came before him. This series is not intended to be exhaustive. The topic of Jesus as “greater than” or “better” than those who came before him is inexhaustible. Libraries could and should be written on this subject. But we have attempted in these pages to explore what such a rich subject would look like. (Each entry is excerpted from There Is No Greater Love)
Christ Greater than Noah
By faith Noah, being warned concerning things not yet seen, prepared an ark for the salvation of his house, by which he condemned the world… (Heb 11:7).
…the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is eight souls, were saved through the waters (1 Pet 3:20).
Noah, by his great faith, built an ark for the salvation of his house of eight souls. By his righteous preaching, he consigned the world to the judgment of God (2 Pet 2:5). Noah offered his family the shelter of his ark, but Jesus offers all of us His cross, which promises a yet greater deliverance.
The wolf and the lamb laid down together in the ark. But Jesus gives us a new paradise, where the wolf and the lamb will sojourn together (Isa 11:6). Noah delivered his house from the flood unto the present heavens and earth. But this world of Noah’s deliverance will at last be delivered over to fire (2 Pet 3:7). Jesus will deliver us from the fire to a new heavens and earth, where righteousness dwells forever (2 Pet 3:13). Noah’s deliverance was great. Jesus’ deliverance is greater.
